R&D thermal chamber performance tester

Problem

A commercial thermal chamber manufacturer performed manual R&D testing of their thermal chambers which resulted in significant post-processing of data, the potential for inconsistency in data or test setup, and required waiting several days for performance results.

Solution

Novum designed, developed, tested, and shipped a turn-key automated data acquisition system for acquiring thermal chamber test data, storing data, and post-processing in a highly efficient manner.

  • Designed and wired an electrical control panel for acquiring precision voltage and current measurements using NI’s CompactDAQ chassis and C Series modules

  • Custom LabVIEW software utilized Delacor Queued Message Handler (DQMH) architecture for quickly developing and testing hardware/software modules required for the test program

  • Built custom mobile data acquisition (DAQ) stand using 80/20 t-slot aluminum extrusion for mounting of electrical control enclosure, keyboard platform, and monitor

  • Test software allowed for real-time data monitoring of the test in order to allow the operator the ability to stop tests which were in the process of failing, saving several hours, if not days, of test time

  • Post-processing of data was fully automated reducing operators potential for error and overall data processing time. The software analyzed data, then stored data in a custom Microsoft Excel document using customer’s standard template.
