Machine utility measurement system

Problem

During industrial machine moves, water & air utility supply differences between locations (new & old) can cause severe machine down-time and require extensive troubleshooting (e.g. new location’s water supply does not produce enough flow rate or cooling performance for blow molds).

End-client required a quick, non-invasive, simple solution for capturing compressed airflow & cooling water flow into large machinery to validate adequate supply at final location (i.e. supply of water & air was measured at original location, then measured at new location to confirm same performance or better).

Solution

Novum Automation designed, developed, tested, and commissioned a private labeled PROMEA machine utility measurement system within 6 weeks of PO.

  • Delivered a fully private-labeled solution for client with their custom branding and nameplates

  • Test data was stored in Amazon Web Services (AWS) Relational Database Solution (RDS) MySQL database for comparison of before/after utility supplies

  • Connected Tableau Business Intelligence to AWS RDS database for additional comparison of utilities analytics

  • Keyence clamp-on flow meters were used for measuring water and compressed air flow rates using non-invasive means (i.e. didn’t have to cut into supply pipes)

  • Lenovo X1 carbon cellular laptop was used to provide remote access and cloud data storage capabilities

  • Two Pelican cases with custom foam inserts provided safe and secure transportation of system components

  • Based on Novum’s standard PROMEA product offering (with application-specific development)
